Traveling by Air:
Visitors traveling by air to the
Santa Barbara area typically fly into the local Santa Barbara
Airport (SBA) or, alternately,
into the much larger Los
Angeles International Airport (LAX), about a two hour drive from
the south and east.
The Santa Barbara Airport is literally minutes away from the UCSB
campus and is extremely convenient, though its small size means that
visitors traveling from most destinations will need to connect through
a larger airport on their way to Santa Barbara. As a result,
fares into SBA may be somewhat higher than those to LAX. At the
same time, it should be noted that the cost of bus fare from Los
Angeles may reduce any savings achieved by using that airport.
For discounted student fares check StudentUniverse and STA Travel.
Local Buses (Santa
Barbara MTD)
Recommended for transportation between the airport and UCSB.
Bus
#11 runs from the airport to campus (North Hall) approximately
every half-hour. Allow 10-15 minutes for travel from the airport to
UCSB. Regular one-way fare $1.25 (all fares are one-way, exact change
required).
Taxis from the
airport to UCSB cost around $10-$15.
Transportation to the UCSB campus from
Los Angeles
International Airport (LAX):
The Santa Barbara
Airbus, while not inexpensive, has a good reputation for getting
around LA's notorious traffic congestion and getting travelers to the
airport on time. The fare is $72 roundtrip when booked in advance
on their website.
Traveling by Road:
Traveling north on US Highway 101:
Take the Airport/UCSB (highway 217) exit off US 101 approximately 8
miles north of Santa Barbara. Take this expressway to the campus East
Gate entrance.
Traveling south on US Highway 101:
Take the Storke Road/Glen Annie Road exit off US 101 approximately 12
miles north of Santa Barbara. Turn right on Storke Road and proceed two
miles to El Colegio Road. Turn left on El Colegio Road and proceed to
the campus West Gate entrance.
