The UCSB Wind Ensemble—with Paul Bambach, Director and Cynthia Vong, Graduate Assistant—will present its annual winter concert entitled "Masterworks Arranged (Or Not)" on Thursday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall. The ensemble will perform John William’s Summon the Heroes (composed for the Rio Olympics and arranged for band by Paul Lavender); two selections from Gustav Holst's The Planets: “Uranus” and “Mars;” Reinhold Gliere’s “Russian Sailors' Dance” from The Red Poppy; Giovanni Gabrielli's Sonata Pian' e Forte; Maurice Ravel's “The Enchanted Garden” from Mother Goose Suite; and Dmitri Shostakovich's Folk Dances; all by different arrangers. Rounding out the concert will be Igor Stravinksy’s Symphonies of Wind Instruments (1920).
