Under the direction of Jon Nathan, the UCSB Percussion Ensemble presents “Ritual and Ceremony: Chamber Music for Percussion, Piano, and Dance” on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall. Special guests will include Christina McCarthy, choreographer (Vice Chair, UCSB Department of Theater and Dance); Leslie Cain and Sio Tepper, piano; Dylan Aguilera, trombone; dancers from UCSB’s Department of Theatre and Dance; and Nick Diamantides, marimba and percussion. The program will feature works such as Paul Creston’s “Ceremonial,” Alan Hovaness’ “Mysterious Horse Before the Gates,” David Skidmore’s “Ritual Music,” Ivan Trevino’s “Catching Shadows,” Michael Laerello’s “Spine” for piano and three percussion, two works by Christopher Rouse, and the seminal concert percussion ensemble work, “Toccata,” written by the esteemed Carlos Chavez in 1942.
