The UCSB Department of Music presents Autumn Waveforms, Fall Quarter 2014’s CREATE Concert. This CREATE concert will feature the distinguished performer-composer David Rosenboom, Dean of the School of Music at Cal Arts, performing a recent work for instruments and electronics. Also featured is a new piece entitled Then by faculty composer Curtis Roads, who gave its European premiere in Athens in September. The unique sound material of Then was realized by processing electronic pulses through a Studer analog tape recorder in a feedback circuit.
In addition to the West Coast premiere of "Then" by faculty member Curtis Roads, there is to be a second premiere by faculty member Jeremy Haladyna. The latest entry in his Mayan Cycle of pieces, Haladyna's "MAYA ZODIAC," in its eight channel version, takes us through the 13 stations of the Mayan zodiac as it clocks heavenly motions taking over 27,000 years. (Fear not: Jeremy Haladyna's piece is considerably shorter!) Come experience astrology and star-gazing as the Mayans did, with recorded vocals and narration by L.A.-based soprano, Allison Bernal.
The famous CREATE Ensemble, led by Matthew Wright, will design an interactive live composition specific to this evening.
