Jazz and punk-rock musicians have given us fascinating examples of expressing resistance through attempts to regain some amount of control of the material and creative processes of making music. In this session we will discuss alternative economic models of music production, the music industry at large, and the relationship between creativity and commodification.
Readings include Eric Hobsawm on jazz. Other readings to be announced.
