The Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Music Film Discussion Series Presents:

Folk Oboe (Mizmar) Traditions in Egypt Presented by Prof. Scott Marcus

Egypt is home to three distinct regional mizmar traditions. While there are a number of fundamental similarities among these three, differences are marked by cultural, historical, and musical contexts, as well as by accompanying dance traditions.

Professor Marcus will present and discuss these traditions through his presentation of video footage of performances recorded during a period of extended fieldwork in 1998.
