Undergraduate Admissions Undergraduate Entrance Auditions Audition Guidelines

Applicants for all degree programs must first meet entrance requirements for the University of California. Auditions are required for all performance degree programs BM, MM and DMA.

Undergraduate admission to the Music Major degree programs as a freshman or a transfer student is determined by the UCSB Admissions Office. UC regulations governing minimum admission requirements the Subject, Scholarship and Examination Requirements for freshmen and the Advanced-Standing Requirements for transfer students may be found in the Undergraduate Education at UCSB section of the on-line UCSB General Catalog. Other general UC admission information is available at the UCSB Admissions web site. Admission to the BM performance programs are then determined by audition, and to the BM Composition program by composition assessment. The Department offers two degree programs: the Bachelor of Music (BM) with various performance and composition emphases, and the Bachelor of Arts (BA) Music Major. When you submit an application for admission, you simply declare Music as your desired major: admission to the specific degree program (BA or BM) and emphasis will be determined later by the Department of Music. Applicants may audition simultaneously for both a BM emphasis and the same performance class within the BA Music major, and will later be informed into which performance program (if either) they have been admitted. Please see the Programs of Study section in this web-site for further information about the BA and BM degree programs.
